Pastrix by Nadia Bolz-Weber

 Bolz-Weber's first memoir-like book is at times heartwarming and heartbreaking. Her in-depth knowledge of Christianity and religion rivals only her down-to-earth lived experience as a faithful sinner. She relays both in beautiful, evocative prose that even an unbeliever can love. Reading about her early exploits as a female pastor in the Lutheran Church is not only entertaining, it is incredibly moving -and funny! The reader will laugh through chapter after chapter, and also maybe shed a tear or two at Bolz-Weber's powerful writing about God, faith and lessons learned along her journey.

A key takeaway for me was the importance of balance and priorities when engaging in any passion that could lean toward fanaticism. Overall, this audiobook is well-written and inclusive for everyone — from casual Disney fans to die-hard “Disney Adults.”

Black Noise by Tricia Rose

  This book was written over 30 years ago. The author was able to do a deep-dive into hip-hop when it was and had "blown up" - 1990s. It's an exploration of hip-hop as cultural expression of the lived experiences, struggles, and creativity of black communities. Tricia Rose explores race and identity, social and economic inequality, resistance and empowerment, and commercialization and authenticity between hip-hop’s roots in community expression and mainstream culture. It's a LOT to say the least. I highly recommend if you're a hip-hop head.
