The Bee Sting by Paul Murray

 Set in post crash Ireland in the 2000s, The Bee Sting is narrated by several characters of the Barnes family. There is Dickie, whose once lucrative car business is going under and his wife Imelda, who spends her days shopping until realizing that her lifestyle is no longer sustainable. Their teenage daughter, Cass, formerly top of her class, seems determined to binge drink her way through her final exams and their twelve-year-old PJ, who is on the brink of running away to meet someone he has met on an online chatroom. This is a novel that begins slowly and builds up into a crescendo that mirrors the economic crisis and is a thoughtfully written picture of family dynamics and failure of communication.

Black Noise by Tricia Rose

  This book was written over 30 years ago. The author was able to do a deep-dive into hip-hop when it was and had "blown up" - 1990s. It's an exploration of hip-hop as cultural expression of the lived experiences, struggles, and creativity of black communities. Tricia Rose explores race and identity, social and economic inequality, resistance and empowerment, and commercialization and authenticity between hip-hop’s roots in community expression and mainstream culture. It's a LOT to say the least. I highly recommend if you're a hip-hop head.
