James by Percival Everett

A brilliant reboot of the Twain classic [Huckleberry Finn] as seen through the eyes and voice of Jim. It captures the absolute horror of the slave life and actually portrays the reality of their horrid treatment. Mark Twain would be proud and probably written Finn in a similar way had social norms allowed.
