The Women by Kristin Hannah

The overall theme is "Women can be Heroes." So little is known about the women who served in Vietnam, this story follows Frankie from when her boring nursing job at her community hospital, to volunteering to serve in Vietnam, a move that shocks and enrages her family. Then, as if the war wasn't traumatizing enough, the real trauma occurs when she is ostracized by the nation upon her return from her second tour in Vietnam. Frankie has to learn to live with the trauma and memories of Vietnam, which proves to be the most difficult thing she will do in her life.
