Operation Mincemeat by Ben Macintyre

During World War II, the Allies wanted to gain a toehold in Southern Europe via Sicily. But they didn’t want the Nazis to know. So an elaborate plan was hatched to make the Nazis think we were going to invade Greece and Sardinia. Then the Nazis would move troops and equipment to Greece and Sardinia.

The trick was to make the Nazis believe this. So they found a dead man in London, dressed him in officer uniform, and gave him letters to allied generals
with the plans. Then this hero would be floated to the Spanish shore where the Nazis had a spy setup to send Berlin news. It get way more complex.
