The Tennis Partner by Abraham Verghese

 This was a tough story to read but I could not put it down about the author and his friendship with an intern. They bond over bi-weekly tennis games and both are going through some changes in their lives. It becomes more and more intense as the intern relapses into drug addiction. The setting is El Paso, Texas and beautifully described by Verghese.
